Almeria Airport Guide

Almeria airport plays one of the most important roles in the development of the province's tourist potential. Located at the centre of the bay of Almeria and eight kilometres from the city, it enjoys excellent communications with the province's other tourist destinations, such as Cabo de Gata, Aguadulce, Roquetas de Mar, El Ejido or Mojacar.

During the 1990's, Almeria airport grew continuously and in 2000 it handled almost a million passengers. To adjust to these demands, in 1995 the passenger terminal was remodelled and in 2002 the new cargo terminal came into operation.

In 2005, Almeria handled 1,073,585 passengers, 18,269 flight operations and 52.7 tonnes of cargo.

Location:
Almeria airport is 9 kilometres to the east of the region's capital city, 500 metres from the coast on the gulf of Almeria and to the south of the Sierra Alhamilla. In the area neighbouring the airport are the towns of El Alquian and Costacabana.

Driving Directions for Almeria Airport:
The airport can be reached from Almeria via the AL-14 motorway, which is a dual carriageway. The airport turn off is found at kilometre nine. From here, the single carriageway road continues to Níjar. There are also access roads from the Autovía del Mediterráneo A-7.

There is an open air car park on the terminal with capacity for 319 vehicles.

Companies include Centauro, Europa Car, Europcar, Rucar and Sol-Mar. Desks and offices are located at Arrivals in the terminal building.

Monday to Friday, from 6:35am to 10:35pm, buses depart from Calle Doctor Gregorio Marañón every 20 min.

Money and communications: There is one bank Cajamar in the terminal with an ATM machine. Eating and drinking: There are several cafetreria’s and one restaurants in the terminal open  according to the season. Shopping: There are few shops at Almeria Airport including duty free, gift shop and news agents. Luggage: There is a left-luggage and lost property facility at the airport.

Disabled Facilities at Almeria Airport:
Many of the facilities and services at the Almeria airport are adapted to the needs of disabled people:

  • Four special parking spaces in the public car park.
  • Six adapted WCs (two in the baggage reclaim, one in the boarding lounge, one in the cafeteria, one on the terrace and another in the arrivals lounge).
  • A lift for access to the technical block and another two to reach the boarding lounge.
  • Adapted check-in desk and cafeteria.
  • The handling company has an Ambulift vehicle for moving people in wheelchairs from the aircraft to the terminal.
