Corfu International Airport, or full name Ioannis Kapodistrias International Airport, named after John Capodistria distinguished Corfiot European diplomat and first Governor of Greece is a new, clean and modern airport situated just 3km south from the island’s capital in the area of Kanoni and opposite to the islet of Pontikonissi. Corfu airport provides all the facilities and services that you would expect from a modern international terminal.

Corfu has an excellent air connection with most European cities especially in the holiday seasons. There are dozens of charter flights daily. It has been said that in August there is one plane landing every three minutes. Furthermore, 4 to 6 flights daily connect the island with Athens and throughout the week there are a few flights connecting the island  with Thessalonica.

The history of Corfu International airport begins with the landing of plane Heston Phoenix (shipping register SXAAH) on 22 March 1937, with governor the Efstratio Ksidi.

At the duration of second world war, it was used by planes of axis "where they found shelter after martial enterprises. His corridor today reaches 2.400 metres, width 45 metresA small building of passenger station was built 1962.

In April 1965 the airport became International and the first flight under Air Traffic Control was realised with jet type Comet of OLYMPIC AIRWAYS.
The manufacture of new passenger station was finished In 1972

Driving Directions for Corfu Airport:
Corfu Airport is located off Route 25 which has links to major roads across the island. Following Route 25 north takes you directly to Corfu Town.

There is an on-site car park with space available for 120 vehicles.

Companies include Ansa, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Top Cars and are located in the arrivals hall.

Public Transport from Corfu Airport:
By Bus: There are no airport buses at Corfu Airport, although local blue buses can be flagged at the junction where the airport approach drive meets the main road, which is approx 500 metres from the terminal. By Taxi: taxis will charge at least 8 euros to the town but in any case you must agree the fare first, or you can phone the local taxi office on 26610 for a radio cab.

Unfortunately as hard as we tried, we could not locate any useful information on disabled facilities at Corfu Airport (poor show!) and are now awaiting further details as requested from the Greek Airports Authority.
