Tenerife Reina Sofia Airport Guide

Located in the south of the island, at the heart of the tourist area, Tenerife Sur airport was opened by Queen Sofia on 6 November 1978.

In its first year of operations, the airport handled over a million passengers. From opening to the end 2005, a total of 165,066,539 passengers had used its facilities.

Tenerife Sur airport is open 24 hours a day. Currently it offers more than a hundred connecting flights and its greatest activity levels occur on Fridays and during the winter season. More than 150 companies work on the premises.

In 2005 a total of 8,631,923 passengers, 63,649 flights and  9,770 tonnes of cargo were handled.

Bus no.341 runs to the central bus station in Santa Cruz de Tenerife at La Avenida Marítima. Bus no.340 runs to North Tenerife Airport (for inter-island flights) and Puerto de la Cruz. Bus no.487 runs to Los Cristianos (for ferries to La Palma and La Gomera) and Playa de Las Américas. Buses depart from outside Arrivals.

The island's capital is Santa Cruz de Tenerife and it lies 64 kilometres away. The airport complex has an exclusive exit to the TF-1 motorway, two minutes away by car. South Tenerife airport also has a taxi service, car hire offices and a scheduled service of buses that leave practically every hour, seven days a week, to Santa Cruz de Tenerife (route 341). Buses also run to different places in the north (namely North Tenerife airport and Puerto de la Cruz) and in the south of the island, such as Granadilla, Las Américas and Los Cristianos.
