Gran Canaria Airport, located on the coast of the island from which it takes its name, is the gateway for the millions of tourists who visit the island every year.
The airport is situated 25 kilometres from one of the main tourist centres of the Canary Islands - the southern area of Gran Canaria - and 18 kilometres from the island's capital and the province of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Driving Directions from Gran Canaria Las Palmas Airport:
The airport can be accessed from the southern area of the island and from the capital by the GC-1 main road. This motorway crosses the Gran Canaria island from north to south in the east. There are also access signs to said motorway from adjoining secondary roads.
Car Parking at Gran Canaria Las Palmas Airport:
There is a car park on-site at Las Palmas Airport with a capacity of over 1300 vehicles. 48 of which are reserved for disabled persons. The airport has 7 automatic payment machines. Three of the machines are on floor A (the upper parking level) and the other three are on floor C (lower level). The automatic payment machines only accept euro notes and coins. If you wish to pay by credit card, go to the manual payment machine located at the car park information point (level A).
All the payment machines and the automatic barriers have communication systems connected to the car park's control centre.

Companies Auto Reisen, Avis, Cicar, Europcar Betacar, Hertz and Record. Desks and offices are located at Arrivals in the terminal building – Zone A.
Public Transport from Gran Canaria Las Palmas Airport:
Road: Taxi: Taxis are available from stands outside the Arrivals areas of all three zones. Bus: There are frequent bus services between the airport and the capital, as well as other destinations on the island. Bus no.60 runs to Las Palmas for Parque de San Catalina and Parque de San Telmo. Money and communications: There is a bank in the main terminal Caja Canarias as well as ATM machines. Eating and drinking: There is a good selection of cafes, bars and restaurants including self-service style and fast food outlets. Shopping: There is a good variety of shops, including duty free, news agents, gift shops and fashion outlets. Other facilities: There is a medical service, pharmacy, children’s play area, post office, lost property, chapel, police office as well as travel agencies.

Disabled Facilities at Gran Canaria Las Palmas Airport:
In February 2003, Gran Canaria airport obtained the International Accessibility Symbol for disabled people, after having removed physical barriers in the passenger terminal, car parks and accesses to the airport.
The main actions taken were:
- Indication of doors and glass panels with 5 cm wide red stripes, as this is the colour most easily seen by people with impaired sight.
- Armrests on the chairs in the passenger terminal to aid disabled users in standing up.
- Installation of ischiatic supports beside the groups of chairs.
- Emergency intercoms, connected to the security control centre, in WCs and lifts, and sound signals in the latter.
- Opening and closing bars on the WC doors for disabled people to facilitate access by travellers in wheelchairs.
- Terminal equipped with text telephones, with keyboard and viewing screen, for people with hearing problems.
- Installation of handrails on the ramps for better access by disabled passengers.
- Indication of stair edges with yellow stripes for people with impaired vision.
- Installation of special warning pavement strips in front of doors, stairs and lifts.
- Construction of non-slip tile ramps, of a different texture from the sidewalk, with two strips of 1 metre wide red tile bands, as indicator pavement.
- Installation of siding to the floor around the groups of telephones so that they are detectable with the cane of a blind person.
- Adaptation of the information desks for DP (disabled people).
- 44 parking spaces for DP (1 for every 43 parking spaces) with horizontal and vertical signs.
